The Driving Evangelist

Posted in Evangelism | 2 Comments

I saw the car way ahead of me on the road.
I noticed there was colorful writing on the back window.
Since the car was a mini van, the back window provided a large canvas.
I intended to read what the writing said when I got closer.

Within minutes, I was directly behind the mini van.
I saw two stick figures drawn on the back window.
One stick figure was sad.
The other stick figure was smiling.

Playing Dress Up Again

Just like that, our oldest granddaughter had her third birthday.
In just a blink of an eye, we arrived here.
We all had stories about the day she was born.
We told her that we came to see her and held her at the hospital on her birthday.

She smiled.
She liked the thought of us being there.
She liked the thought that we held her and met her so quickly after she was born.
She has to rely on our stories and we are delighted to tell them.

The Little Corner

Posted in Family Life | 6 Comments

We have a little corner in our kitchen.
It is really a place where two sides of the countertop meet.
I am grateful to have a large kitchen to accommodate our family.
This little corner is indeed little.

I have a large island, which is for sitting, and eating, and lingering in conversation.
I have countertops that hold my Kitchen Aid mixer, that I cannot do without.
Countertops on which I place my husband’s coffee maker.
I say my husband’s coffee maker, since I have never even tasted coffee.

The Exchange

This was a day of purposeful errands.
Three different stores.
Three different returns.
Why don’t you just get a label and send them back? My husband suggested.

Because that’s harder, I answered him.
He really didn’t understand.
He doesn’t realize that I just might find something to replace what I was returning.
He doesn’t realize that going out and having time to myself in the car is quite nice.

Disconnect

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

In my heart, I am a gardener.
In reality, I am not.
I can take care of my hanging baskets and help them to thrive.
I know how to keep my mulch beds neat by pulling the weeds frequently.

It was when I was watering my hanging baskets on my side porch that it came to me.
I had my phone with me as I was on the porch.
I took a picture of the area about which I was thinking.
I can see the area from my porch swing or my bistro table.

Those Who Own The Words

Posted in Motherhood | 6 Comments

I never thought a couple of words could make me so angry.
I wanted to scream, NO!
The whole thing was absurd, but it was actually said.
It was a peek into the culture war that is being fought, not with weapons but with words.

I am a woman.
I am a wife.
I am a mother.
I am a Grandma.

Attitude Matters

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I have a cute little bistro table and chair set on my porch.
It has been used more times than I can count.
It is a place for a friend and I to have a cup of tea and talk.
It is a place to sit and watch the birds that are always nearby.

My side porch has a wonderful server table that is next to the bistro set.
It is a perfect place to put a pitcher of iced tea and some delicious baked goods.
It is also the place that the squirrels decide to use to crack open nuts they have stored away.
I find the open shells and debris everywhere.

Signs Hanging From The Ceiling

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

I noticed it when the workmen were here building our new deck.
I saw it on the driveway.
Tire tracks.
As the workmen drove down our driveway, they left tracks in their wake.

It was not snowing.
It was only May.
The tracks I saw on my driveway could have been made by a dusting of snow.
However, this was from a different kind of dusting.

Nest Building

This is the season of nests.
Even though the birds think they are hiding them, their nests can still be seen.
The nests are found as the birds fly back and forth.
It is not difficult to follow their path and know what is tucked among the branches.

The Side Of The Bed

Posted in Motherhood | 2 Comments

There is a place, a holy place that we tend to overlook.
Holy places are often quite ordinary.
Holy places are usually found among the common.
Something is holy simply because God sets it apart.

It was during my own prayer time that I thought about this holy place.
It was as I was praying for each of my children that it came to mind.
It was a place where I sat each night.
It was a place I never really considered holy until it was no longer a part of my daily routine.
