The One In The Glass

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I have an Audible account and absolutely love it.
I am a voracious reader.
I used to love to read aloud to my children and now to my grandchildren.
Being read to, as I listen to a book on Audible, is just so wonderful.

I have listened to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit as well.
I have listened to all the James Herriot books.
I have listened to classics like Jane Eyre and most of the Jane Austen books.
However, my favorites were book by Lucy Maud Montgomery, who wrote Anne of Green Gables.

Making The Book Your Own

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

There are many bookcases in my house.
The living room alone has four large bookcases and one small one, which are filled with books.
The books used to go in the same direction with their spines nice and straight.
Now some books are placed horizontally on top of the vertical ones.

I never thought I would have books going in different directions on my bookshelves.
Not because I want them all nice and neat, exactly.
I just never imagined I would have so many books that they demanded to go every which way.
To a reader like me, that is a good problem to have.

Discussing A Fairy Tale

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I planned Grandma days with my three oldest three granddaughters.
It was my oldest granddaughter’s turn.
She decided to go to our favorite spot for hot chocolate and a doughnut.
I had two other places in mind for us to go.

We were listening to the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack, at her request.
She wanted to hear the narration again, which explains the fairy tale.
She wanted to talk about it, so I turned off the music.
She had questions about the need for the beast to be loved and to love in return.

A Game As An Object Lesson

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

I met her for breakfast at a neighborhood coffee shop.
She and I have been in Bible study together for over ten years.
I tower over her about an entire foot.
What she doesn’t have in stature, she has in heart.

Our breakfast was three hours long.
Not the eating part, rather the talking part.
I even splurged and got some delicious hot chocolate.
An extra shot of mocha? The barista asked me.

Dreaming Of A Library

Posted in Bible | 5 Comments

I’m running out of room.
It’s not that our house isn’t large enough.
We have plenty of room for our family.
My books are causing the problem.

Currently, we have nine large bookcases in our house.
The four bookcases downstairs are the ones I use the most.
They are overflowing.
I don’t know what to do about it.

One Little Bite

Posted in Bible | 4 Comments

I decorated the house for fall.
My husband brought two bins up from the basement.
Wooden pumpkins, shaker boxes, and fall signs were put in their places.
Summer things were put away; winter things are around the corner.

Two of my granddaughters stayed overnight on the weekend.
My oldest granddaughter counted the number of pumpkins she saw on my Hoosier cabinet.
One, two, three, four, five, she counted until she gleefully said, twenty!
There are really only five pumpkins there, but to her it seemed like a lot.

Signs Hanging From The Ceiling

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

I noticed it when the workmen were here building our new deck.
I saw it on the driveway.
Tire tracks.
As the workmen drove down our driveway, they left tracks in their wake.

It was not snowing.
It was only May.
The tracks I saw on my driveway could have been made by a dusting of snow.
However, this was from a different kind of dusting.

A Hard Question

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I am in physical therapy for the next few weeks.
Nothing serious.
Just heel pain that is really due to tight Achilles tendons.
I am strengthening muscles that apparently I don’t use often or appropriately.

It’s funny to walk in a way that you are not used to walking.
It’s odd to walk with one foot literally in front of the other along a straight line.
We all learn to walk as children, but often we don’t walk the right way.
I am learning how the littlest thing connected to something else really makes a difference.

Discontinued Shade

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

They discontinued the shade of my lipstick.
To someone who does not wear lipstick, that seems like a trivial thing.
To someone who does wear lipstick, it is a nuisance.
Only lipstick wearers can understand.

I always get my lipstick at a department store.
I never buy lipstick in the cosmetic section of a drug store.
I would not know the shade that would best suit me.
There is no way to try it on when it is packaged in plastic.

The Text That Came In The Afternoon

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

The text came in the afternoon.
I recognized the name right away.
It is someone I know from my local grocery store.
I have not seen her in a while.

She is a single mom.
She works at the grocery store; the last I heard, she was put on night shift.
She works while her children are asleep, which means she is probably exhausted.
I am proud of her and have told her so; she works very hard for her children.
