A Packet Of Seeds

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

I have a packet of seeds.
They came in a box with other items.
They came as part of an online conference I attended virtually this past October.
It is the conference I usually attend in person, but like everything else, it was put on hold.

Tickets for this year’s creativity conference went on sale last week.
I didn’t even try to obtain one.
All the people who had tickets in 2020, when everything shut down, are now able to use them.
There was only a handful of new tickets available for this year’s conference.

The Innocence Of Children

Posted in Discipleship | 4 Comments

Life as an adult can be so hard.
We know too much.
We see too much.
We hear too much.

Life as a child should be so much simpler.
It should be carefree.
It should be filled with beautiful things.
It should be filled with wonder.

Learning To Show Grace

Posted in Poetry | 2 Comments

This poem was originally published on September 19, 2014.
It was needed then. It is needed now.

I am learning to show grace,
Every day a little more,
Each and every situation,
Never knowing what’s in store.

The days I learn to hold my tongue,
And keep my eyes from rolling.
The days I go the extra mile,
Keep away from all controlling.

The Saga Of The Pants

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

My husband and I were getting ready to go out to dinner.
We would be with others at the table.
I chose to wear a new pair of black ankle pants.
They were hanging in my closet but I had never worn them before.

I picked a shirt, shoes, and purse to complete the outfit.
I was ready a few minutes after I said I would be downstairs.
I felt rushed that night.
My husband wasn’t rushing me; it was something inside me that felt rushed.

The Painting On The Wall

I was sitting in the periodontist’s office.
I was simply there for a checkup.
I came to the appointment on time but the doctor was running late.
I was placed in a blue room, in a dentist chair.

I sat there and wondered why so many dentist offices are painted blue.
It is said that the color blue is calm and tranquil.
The color blue is said to bring down blood pressure.
A soft blue is soothing, relaxing, and serene.

Drama In the Middle Of The Night

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

I woke up at 3:30am.
I reached over to check the time on my phone.
In my sleepiness, I hit the Instagram icon and a cooking video started to play.
I quickly tried to turn the video off so it wouldn’t wake up my husband.

Suddenly, I saw that I had inadvertently dialed the emergency SOS on my phone.
I heard a voice.
In my half awake state, I thought it was dialing 911.
I heard the dial sound and I heard a voice.

Picking Beauty

Posted in Worship | 2 Comments

It was an afternoon of errands.
I deliberately drove home a different way.
A slower way.
A more scenic way.

It had been a week of cold temperatures with a snowfall trying to make its last hurrah.
I remember reading about “sugar snow” as described by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Sugar snow is a late snow that falls when it really should be spring.
That late snowfall helps the trees make more sap for maple syrup.

A Natural Progression

Posted in Daily Living | 4 Comments

Life becomes interesting when you find yourself acting out a scenario from a children’s book.
If you have been around young children,  you know about this book.
If you have been around young children, you have most likely read this book to them.
If You Give A Mouse A Cookie is now being read to my grandchildren.

If you give a mouse a cookie, he’s going to ask for a glass of milk.
When you give him the milk, he’ll probably ask you for a straw.
The story builds from one thing to another.
It is a progression that children find amusing.

The Task At Hand

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

Our family loved playing board games.
We still do, when we’re all together and when there is a chunk of time.
Some games I will play as well.
Some games I prefer to watch from afar.

I remember when I went from one child to two children.
I remember putting the baby up for a nap and having time with my older daughter.
My intentions were good.
However, early mornings and night feedings brought on a midday sleepiness.

Imitation

Posted in Discipleship | 4 Comments

My two-and-a-half year old granddaughter was here for six days.
Her mommy and daddy went on a Babymoon before their second child arrives in May.
It was a delightful time.
We read books, did puzzles together, and played.

I love to see the imagination of a child come alive.
My three granddaughters are all a year apart.
Each has a vivid imagination.
Each imagination is at a different developmental stage.
