A Gift From The Heart

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)

The doorbell rang and I already knew.
It was one of my granddaughters, who is one more than two.
I saw through the door, the top of her head.
Grandma! Grandma! is all that she said.

I opened the door to a smiling child.
She held in her hand a piece from the wild.
She held it so proudly and proclaimed:
It’s for you, Grandma, sweetly saying my name.

Common Grace Revisited

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

This poem was first published on November 6, 2012. I have the same questions all these years later.

How do You determine, Lord, the answer to our prayers?
How do You discern, dear Lord, the ways to show You care?

How do You distinguish when the farmer prays for rain?
How do You answer the worried bride who asks for sun again?

How do You know what is always best, and very good, and true?
Don’t You get annoyed at those who try so hard to be You?

Thankfulness Of The One

Posted in Poetry | 2 Comments

Ten men were walking on the road.
Unclean their desperate cry.
They had to stay so far away,
From others passing by.

The disease had made them all unclean.
Cut off and so alone.
Disfigured, scarred, and smelly.
The pain would make them moan.

Asking Questions

Posted in Poetry | 2 Comments

This poem was originally published on October 14, 2013.

Every little child asks,
The famous question, Why?
We come to You, O Father,
With our groaning and our sighs.

There is so much unanswered,
So much to understand,
No clarity in Your higher ways,
Not sure of all You planned.

There Is No Room

There is no room, was often said.
The couple searched for some soft bed.
Where their long awaited baby’s cry,
Would pierce the silence of the sky.

But the sky rang loud with angels white,
Who announced the birth in dark of night.
To a sleeping town with sleeping hearts,
Unaware of what God would start.

Don’t Miss Him

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

Are you done your shopping?
Did you send your cards?
Did you wrap the presents?
Finding boxes was hard.

Did you hang your stockings?
Did you trim the tree?
Did you bake some cookies?
Are there any for me?

The Conversation

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

This poem was originally published in May, 2019.
The thoughts are still necessary to ponder.

Us:
We have our own agenda, Lord.
It’s very plain to see.
You can change it anytime.
You can do it instantly.

We think that our to-do list,
Is the most important thing.
You possess the veto power,
For You are Lord and King.

Learning To Show Grace

Posted in Poetry | 2 Comments

This poem was originally published on September 19, 2014.
It was needed then. It is needed now.

I am learning to show grace,
Every day a little more,
Each and every situation,
Never knowing what’s in store.

The days I learn to hold my tongue,
And keep my eyes from rolling.
The days I go the extra mile,
Keep away from all controlling.

Christmas Card Dilemma

Posted in Christmas, Poetry | 2 Comments

I ran out of Christmas cards.
I ordered far too few.
I thought I could just order more.
Seemed right for me to do.

I put items in my shopping cart.
Much less than the time before.
Until I saw the total cost.
The amount was so much more.
