Don’t Miss Him

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

Are you done your shopping?
Did you send your cards?
Did you wrap the presents?
Finding boxes was hard.

Did you hang your stockings?
Did you trim the tree?
Did you bake some cookies?
Are there any for me?

Did you save receipts?
Just in case.
Hope that sweater you bought
Was not a mistake.

Did you stuff the turkey?
Did you bake the pies?
Did you plan the menu?
How early you’ll rise.

Looks like you
Got everything done.
Just put your feet up.
Get ready for fun.

But then you see Him.
Right there where He lay.
The Baby Jesus
Asleep on the hay.

Where were you? I asked.
I’ve been here all along.
I watched you wrap.
Heard you sing your songs.

I was there in the kitchen.
I was under the tree.
I was tucked in each card.
But you didn’t see Me.

I’m sorry, Jesus.
I missed you, I guess.
I was so busy.
Doing things that were best.

Doing things so important.
For all to see.
But did you remember,
To do them for Me?

Bake your cookies,
As you sing, Silent Night.
Tell the story,
With all your might.

Gather your family.
Gather your friends.
Tell it over and over,
Without end.

Tell it on mountains.
Go door to door.
Shout it in alley ways.
Be quiet no more.

The world needs to hear,
What you have to say.
You’re the ones who will tell.
I’ve designed it that way.

Some will believe.
Some walk away.
Some will not hear,
What you’re trying to say.

It’s all about them.
It’s not about Me.
Then they complain,
That they feel so empty.

Things only last,
For a moment or so.
Things without Me,
Don’t have far to go.

The meaning of Christmas,
Is not found in a store.
The meaning of Christmas,
Is so much more.

God came down.
Became like us.
Hard to believe,
But believe you must!

Without Him in it,
Just another day.
With Him in it,
The only way!

The only way back,
To the Father’s side.
The Babe in the manger.
There’s nowhere to hide.

He came so helpless,
The first time, you see.
He’ll come again.
A judge He will be.

The helpless Babe
With rags for clothes.
Will come again.
With a blood stained robe.

His name is Jesus.
He saves us from sin.
Saves those who believe.
Who ask Him to come in.

Through eyes of faith,
One day we will sing.
You’re my Lord of Lords.
You’re my King of Kings.

Christmas…the cradle.
Christmas…the cross.
Jesus who came
To save those who are lost.

So much is wrapped up,
In the manger of hay,
A baby, our Savior.
The Light and the Way.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

You are to give Him the name Jesus, because he will save His people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel which means “God with us.” (Matthew 1:21-23)
