The Fallen Branch

How I love my morning walk.
I love the solitude.
I love what I see.
I love what I hear.

I am always amazed at how the littlest, simplest thing can be the most profound.
It is not that I am more astute.
I look for things.
I seek to be aware of my surroundings.

Staccato Conversation

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

I began to take piano lessons when I was six years old.
My fingers were just barely able to reach an octave.
That was the prerequisite for my piano teacher.
My piano teacher was British, her wavy gray hair always perfectly in position.

My mother drove me to her house every Wednesday for my 4:00 lesson.
Most times I came prepared.
Sometimes I had not practiced as I should.
My teacher always knew and I was always surprised.

Choosing A Table

It was a Grandma Day.
I like to have one-on-one time with my grandchildren.
This day was the first Grandma Day for a special little almost two-and-a-half-year-old.
It was a big deal to her to go in Grandma’s car all by herself.

I told my daughter that I would be over at 9:30am.
I planned to take this little sweetheart to a coffee shop to get her favorite doughnut.
Then, I planned to take her shopping for one special thing (her choice) and a new dress.
I think I was as excited as she was for our time together.

Pouring Coffee

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

I have never had coffee.
I have no desire to even taste it.
Many people think that is very odd.
However, I love my cup of tea.

The fact that I have never had coffee does not keep me from making it for others.
My husband loves coffee.
Every night I make the coffee for him so that it is ready when he gets up.
The aroma of coffee, that everyone raves about, is lost on me.

The Doll Bed

Posted in Family Life | 2 Comments

I was at a thrift shop in the land of Amish buggies.
I had donated quite a bit of clothes and household things.
I always like to go inside to see what treasures I can find.
Old pottery, dishes, and items tucked away on a back shelf that no one seems to see.

As I was walking around the antique section, I saw it on the floor.
It reminded me of something my husband made for our second daughter.
He used his woodworking skills to make each a special gift made from his hand.
Handmade by Dad, with the year it was given, was usually burned onto the bottom.

The Gift In A Plastic Bag

Posted in Worship | 2 Comments

We all prepared for our family beach vacation.
We were coming from various homes and locations.
It was about a seven hour drive for most of us.
The drive is never my favorite part of the trip, but once I’m there, I’m fine.

We left around 8:30 in the morning.
Stopping for lunch and a gas fill up, we thought we would arrive by 4:30.
We always get pizza the first night.
I unpack and then go grocery shopping to fill up the cabinets and refrigerator.

A Shattering Of Glass

I was getting ready to have two friends over for brunch.
I got up and decided not to walk that morning.
I had cooking and baking to do, which I thoroughly enjoy.
I was still in my pajamas, knowing that I would dress after I finished everything.

I was listening to a podcast as I worked.
I looked at the clock and saw that I had forty-five minutes before my friends arrived.
Satisfaction.
Much was accomplished by not going on my walk.

This is the time of year I take a 6 week hiatus. This is the time of year that I set aside for rest and refreshment. This is family time, vacation time, and a time to be still.  God willing, a new Whisper will be published on Tuesday, August 9. Prayerfully, God will show me new things during […]

The Conversation

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

This poem was originally published in May, 2019.
The thoughts are still necessary to ponder.

Us:
We have our own agenda, Lord.
It’s very plain to see.
You can change it anytime.
You can do it instantly.

We think that our to-do list,
Is the most important thing.
You possess the veto power,
For You are Lord and King.

The Doorbell

Posted in Faith | 2 Comments

My husband installed a doorbell on our laundry room door.
It sounds different from our main doorbell.
The different sound is quite helpful, since I know which door needs to be answered.
The interesting part of the newest doorbell is the fact that it has a camera.

That fact that it has a camera intrigues my husband.
However, I like another feature of the doorbell so much more.
Whenever motion is detected, the sound of wind chimes can be heard on our phones.
The detected motion is helpful when a package is delivered at either of our front doors.
