That Kind of Hug

The little girl was shaking from her head down to her toes.
She had to get a running start; she didn’t have far to go.
Waiting for the loving arms she hadn’t felt in quite a while.
Waiting for her Daddy, with his kind eyes and his smile.

Her Daddy in his uniform; he’d been wearing all along.
Her Daddy stood so straight and tall; her Daddy was so strong.
She talked to him with Mommy, through the computer screen.
But now he would be next to her; now he would be seen.

Chameleon

I was looking very stylish,
In my hat so tried and true,
Until to my surprise, I learned,
You don’t like the color blue.

Well, I have a red one,
Perhaps a bit of green,
Floppy brim, Fedora,
And all types in between.

Ready For Battle

Posted in Faith, Poetry | 4 Comments

My hands are so uncomfortably tied,
Not knowing where to turn,
Too many issues pressing in,
Each one more a concern.

Marriage is trampled underfoot,
Life is thrown away,
Government growing so massive,
Morals in a state of decay.

Our Life Can Be A Musical

Posted in Poetry | 4 Comments

Her little voice rang sweet and clear,
Across the aisle wide.
Her song, a real life story,
Her mother by her side.

The words did not have rhythm.
The words did not have rhyme,
The words recounted everything,
About how she spent her time.

The Song Of The Morning

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

The branches heavy laden,
With their blooms that touch the ground,
A lovely sight for eyes to see,
The beauty all around.

The pink of cherry blossoms,
The lilac’s purple hue,
Forsythia’s sunny yellow,
Hydrangea’s royal blue.

Wake Up

Wake up, O sleeper…wake up!
Like an ostrich in the sand.
Look around you and take note.
What is happening to our land?

Survival of the fittest is the norm.
No time for new life or for old.
A baby disposed of…no matter when.
A bill of goods we’ve been sold.

The Long Haul

There I sat at the high school play,
Amazed at all the talent.
The singing and dancing all superb,
The director’s effort gallant.

Each of these students was playing a part,
They were not at all what they seemed.
They lived out the story before us.
The characters’ hopes and dreams.

The Day After

What do you do the day after?
The day after the day that He rose?
What do you do to remember?
What do you do so that others may know?

Is there still awe in your countenance?
As you answer, He’s risen indeed.
Is there amazement and joy in your heart,
As the Easter story you read?

The Entrance

He came on a donkey with their cloaks on the road.
The branches were strewn on the ground.
Hosanna, they shouted, as most travelers do,
They waved the palms all around.

The Son of David, they loudly proclaimed.
He who comes in the name of the Lord.
The kingdom is coming, they say…He is blessed.
Their voices raised in one accord.

On The Other Side Of Needs

She stepped up to the microphone,
Gave a preface to her song.
Sang it many times before,
Never heard it all along.

Sang the words as only words,
With never any heart.
After going to Africa,
They tore her heart apart.
