I am learning to show grace,
Every day a little more,
Every day a situation,
Never knowing what’s in store.
The days I learn to hold my tongue,
And keep my eyes from rolling.
The days I go the extra mile,
Keep away from all controlling.

It is the day to clean my house,
Everything in its place,
Dusting all the furniture,
Airing out the space.
Cleaning all the bathrooms,
Scrubbing kitchen floors,
Changing all the sheets,

Have you forgotten those lazy days,
When faces are seen in the clouds?
Have you forgotten what it means to play,
Or recite movie scenes out loud?
Have you forgotten your favorite toy,
Or the feel of your blanket so soft?
Have you forgotten the smell of sweet hay,
As you make up a bed in the loft?

So much to understand,
No clarity in Your higher ways,

A shooting at the Navy Yard,
No one knows the reason,
Violence in the halls of school,
No matter what the season.
Drive by shootings, overdose,
Slavery you don’t mention,
Runaways and homelessness,
Around you, so much tension.

For some that may be true,
For others, age is a state of mind,
That makes them very blue.
The years behind were the better years,
The years ahead loom unknown,
The good old days are longed for,
The seeds have all been sown.

There is no elevator to success,
You have to take the stairs,
So profound when written down,
Just hope that someone cares.
So many feel entitled,
No need to work or try,
Just give me all that I deserve,
