Dreaming Of A Library

Posted in Bible | 5 Comments

I’m running out of room.
It’s not that our house isn’t large enough.
We have plenty of room for our family.
My books are causing the problem.

Currently, we have nine large bookcases in our house.
The four bookcases downstairs are the ones I use the most.
They are overflowing.
I don’t know what to do about it.

Conversation Of Joy

I have been struggling with a cold for the past week.
I do not have much of a voice when I speak.
Sadly, I am not able to sing.
It has been a week of much needed rest.

My two-year-old granddaughter was here for the weekend.
What a joy it is to have my grandchildren here.
I use the word, joy, when I describe my family.
It is not cliche.

The Role Of Protector

This Whisper was originally published on February 23, 2016.
I am republishing it because a sweet picture of a little boy and his sister reminded me.
I use the precious picture with permission.
May there be more chivalrous protectors.

I had an early morning appointment and I needed to silence my cell phone.
As I was getting ready to leave, I put my purse and my coat in my lap.
I could feel my phone vibrating.
I wondered whether it was a call, a text, or a reminder.

One Little Bite

Posted in Bible | 4 Comments

I decorated the house for fall.
My husband brought two bins up from the basement.
Wooden pumpkins, shaker boxes, and fall signs were put in their places.
Summer things were put away; winter things are around the corner.

Two of my granddaughters stayed overnight on the weekend.
My oldest granddaughter counted the number of pumpkins she saw on my Hoosier cabinet.
One, two, three, four, five, she counted until she gleefully said, twenty!
There are really only five pumpkins there, but to her it seemed like a lot.

A Residue Of Polish

Every so often, I clean the outside of my kitchen cabinets with Murphy’s Oil Soap.
I love the smell.
I love how clean the cabinet doors look.
I love the way the wood shines.

I decided to wipe the front of all my cabinets early in the morning.
I got out my bucket and put just a bit of Murphy’s Oil Soap in the bottom.
I put warm water in the bucket, filling it only half way.
I got an old towel from the rag bag.

The Inspection Label

Posted in Salvation | 4 Comments

I always love one-on-one time with my children.
In fact, for any special occasion, the gift of time is precious to me.
Since we had so many family birthdays, my oldest daughter and I delayed our celebration.
It was actually better because we both looked forward to it with eagerness.

My daughter asked me to pick the restaurant.
We agreed on the date that was best for both of us.
The evening finally came.
I plan to look cute, she texted, but then she always does.

The Rubik’s Cube

Posted in Daily Living | 6 Comments

You could feel the excitement in the air.
It was palpable.
We had prepared for this day for months.
Six of us had prayed, and planned, and waited.

It was the first day of women’s Bible study at church.
It was the first day that a homeschool co-op was going to be joining us.
While the children were in their classrooms, the moms were studying God’s Word together.
It was time to meet these women for whom we had been praying.

A Child’s Way Of Talking

Posted in Discipleship | 4 Comments

When we watch family videos, I am always amazed.
I remember one video when I am standing in kitchen busy at a task.
I was getting snacks for my children who had just come home from school.
One of my older daughters was filming, taking on the role of family chronicler.

As I was going here and there in the kitchen, while my older son was talking.
I was keenly aware of the other children all around me, but this particular son had a lot to say.
He talked about the teacher changing their seats.
He talked about who he was sitting with and where his new seat was located in the classroom.

Not Sure

Posted in Evangelism | 2 Comments

I remember something I used to tell my children when they didn’t know the answer to a question.
It is OK not to know something; it is not OK not to know it, twice.
In that grammatically interesting sentence there is an important truth.
We cannot possibly know everything, but it is possible for us to find the answer.

That training crept into my daughter’s classroom when she was a second grade teacher.
Children often say, I don’t know.
Sometimes, they truly don’t know.
Other times, it is a way not to answer a question when they are put on the spot.

The Description

Posted in Discipleship | 4 Comments

Two months of rest.
Two months of putting my writing on the back burner.
Two months of not recording the Whispers I hear.
It has been a refreshing time, yet I have missed it.

My husband retired.
His surprise party was a success.
My daughter’s belly is growing as she and her husband wait for their third child, due in January.
Wedding planning is revving up for our youngest daughter’s wedding in April.
