Walls and Dots and Sheep

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

It was an exquisite stone wall.
I had never seen anything like it.
Such precision.
A completed puzzle before me.

Obviously constructed by a master craftsman.
Made from the field stones that were scattered about.
Massive stones jutting out in exactly the right place.
Small stones filling in the gaps.

Pulsebeat

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

Pulse…The rhythmical throbbing of arteries produced by the regular contractions of the heart, especially as palpated at the wrist or in the neck.
So says the dictionary.

We all know how to check our pulse.
Runners are very adept at checking their pulse rate.
Anyone who works out regularly knows their resting heart rate.
They can measure their cardiovascular fitness by the beat of their heart.

Faithful Waiting

Posted in Faith, Holy Week | 2 Comments

No one likes to wait.
Waiting in traffic.
Waiting in the doctor’s office with a sick child.
Waiting on the phone when you are put on hold.
Time seems to move along at a snail’s pace.

Waiting to open presents on your birthday.
Waiting to get your driver’s license.
Waiting for a baby to be born.
Waiting to buy your first house.
Time seems to stand still.

Expectations

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

Whenever I have ice cream, I usually have chocolate chip.
It has always been a favorite of mine.
No extra toppings.
Just one scoop…in a dish rather than a cone.

When I was growing up, the ice cream we usually bought was made in Philadelphia.
Their ads proudly described how their ice cream was made.
ALL NATURAL!

Weariness

Do you ever just feel weary,
And you really don’t know why?
Can’t put your finger on it.
Wouldn’t even try.

Can’t explain the emptiness,
That’s way down in your soul.
Can’t understand the outlook,
You feel buried in a hole.

The Single Seed

My daughter and I went out for lunch today.
We had delicious salads and unsweetened iced tea with lemon.
As I took my first sip through the straw, I inadvertently swallowed a small lemon seed.

I laughed and reminisced.

When I was a small girl, watermelons were a much anticipated summer treat.
I couldn’t wait to bite into the juicy goodness of the pink center.
I always made sure I never ate the watermelon too close to the rind.
It always seemed too bitter.

All Access Pass

I was delighted to watch a short video this morning.
A young mom, that I know from my old church, is living with her family in Colorado.
Her husband is there on business.
They have two sons.

This young woman is an amazing photographer.
The pictures she posts on her blog are spectacular.
She captures God’s creation in all its Glory.

The Minefield

I helped in my daughter’s second grade class today.
It was such an incredible blessing to be there.
They are amazing children.

The children were writing non-fiction stories.
I was there to conference with them before they wrote their final draft.
Even when a simple topic was chosen, their viewpoint was so refreshing.

Hand over Hand

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

The roads were a bit slick, since freezing rain had fallen through the night.
I spun out the next day on black ice…back when I was a college student.
There was no damage to my car…or to any other car.
I was alone, in the daytime, on a back road…with no one else around.
It was a frightening experience…to lose control…even for a second.

I was thinking of that today…remembering when I was sixteen and first learned to drive.
I was a good driver, but there was one thing I could not master.
I insisted on helping the steering wheel turn.

Apple Of His Eye

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

I poked myself in the eye this morning.
I woke up and quickly jumped out of bed to turn off my alarm.
I keep my alarm clock on the other side of the room so that once I’m up…I’m up!
When I rubbed my sleepy eyes, I poked my eye with my finger.

We have all poked our eye with something.
It hurts!
Your eye wants to stay closed…almost as if to say…leave me alone!
Walking around with one eye opened and one eye closed is no easy task.
