Soudarion

It’s hot!
We have had minimal rain this summer, over ninety degree days, high humidity.
I am not a fan of hot weather.

I have always liked crisp fall days…even cold winter days.
Snow on the ground…fire in the fireplace…hot cup of tea…good book to read.

Filling Up The Empty Places

Empty.
We have negative connotations connected to that word.
The glass half empty describes a pessimistic view of the world.

The primary definition of empty is…containing nothing; not filled or occupied.

Heart Singing

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

My youngest daughter and I were watching an episode of Christy, based on the Catherine Marshall book.
It is the story of Christy, a city girl from Asheville, who goes to the back woods of Tennessee to teach in a mission school.
The stories are wonderful as Christy adjusts to life there…as she learns from the children.

A young girl named Ruby Mae, who helps at the mission, was being teased mercilessly for her appearance and her personal hygiene.

A wonderful dialogue happened between Miss Ida, the pastor’s sister who cooks and serves at the mission, and Ruby Mae.

Birthday

Posted in Salvation | 8 Comments

Today is my birthday.
Every year, I always have the same idea.
Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up on my birthday to confetti and a brass band?
Seriously, being with family and friends…quietly celebrating…is just perfect.

Banishment

There was a tree in the woods of our old house.
It was up a slight hill, just to the left as I looked out my kitchen window.
The tree had an upside down horseshoe indentation at the base of the trunk.
I would have never noticed that if not for one of my daughters.

God wires each of us differently.
Our children are born with temperaments and dispositions they carry through their lives.

The Quilt

I love quilts.
I have a large quilt in my family room, hanging on a quilt rack my husband made for me.
It is a lone star pattern.
The red star in the center catches your eye when you walk into the room.

There is another quilt in my foyer.
It is the Christmas-Easter quilt, since it has a star and cross shape stitched throughout.

The Shape of Things

There are photography books, currently found in bookstores, that intrigue me.
The books consist of photographs of the alphabet in everyday things.
I found a website for alphabet photography.
I was able to type in my name and see the design.

The “G” was in a wrought iron railing; the “I” was the torch in the Statue of Liberty’s hand.
The “N” was a stained glass window; and the “A” was the Eiffel Tower.

Gotta Dime?

Smart phones, cell phones, cordless phones, push button phones, rotary phones, pay phones, phone booths.

Yes…I remember phone booths.
Both of my sons can relate to a phone booth, not by experience, but by movie trivia.
If asked, they will remember a phone booth as the thing Marty McFly went into to tear out a phone book page with Doc Brown’s address on it.

Years ago, college students could relate to phone booths because it was fashionable to see how many people could fit inside.

Clark Kent found that phone booths came in handy when a quick change to Superman was required.

God In A Box

When I have to wrap a present, I must pull down the attic stairs and climb up to get a box.
I have climbed up to my attic many times, sure that I would find the perfect box.
I discover that I have every size but the one I need.
Even when I have found the right one, I wrap the present and realize that I am about six inches short on the wrapping paper.
I have yet to find a tactful way to hide that mistake.

Wrapping presents is my least favorite job.
I love choosing the right present, and hiding surprises all around the house.
But the wrapping tends to get tedious…right up there with ironing.
I have to find ways to refocus my thoughts.
Playing music, loud enough to feel, always puts me in a festive mood.
Praying for the recipient of the gift is something I can do that has eternal value.

Freedom Isn’t Free

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

We had a church picnic last weekend.
It was a wonderful time of food, fellowship, and baseball.
There were two, not so evenly matched teams…the adults vs. the children.

Before you judge and yell unfair, the adults had to bat with their opposite hand and they only had one out.
Needless to say, it was more than fair.
The adults walked away blushing a little bit.
