Pink Petals

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

There are shower people and there are bath people.
I am a shower person.
The hot water feels so good on my back after a night of sleep.
There is something so refreshing about a hot shower as I begin my day.

It often amazes me that for us shower people, getting caught in the rain is not so pleasant.
I thought about that as I dodged raindrops coming out of the grocery store.
Water from the shower is delightful and refreshing.
Water from a rain shower is annoying and inconvenient.

The Object Behind The Washer

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

My oldest daughter came over so we could catch up.
I love that special one-on-one time.
We usually end up talking for a few hours.
We talk about everything and nothing.

She texted me when she was on her way.
I wanted to open one of the garage doors for her.
My husband was away on business so we had the night to ourselves.
I had just opened the door that leads to the garage and pushed the button to open the door.

Wiggle Room

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

Every time I walk across the bridge, I think about it.
I am not talking about a bridge outside that goes over a body of water.
I am talking about the bridge that goes over our foyer and family room.
It is the bridge that links one side of our upstairs to the other.

It is very cozy on the bridge.
There is a comfy wicker settee and two wicker chairs that beckons you to sit for a while.
There are three large bookshelves filled with books on the bridge.
Bookshelves filled with books is nothing new at our house.

Hearing The Drum Beat

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

If you ever go to the library around story hour you will see it.
You will see faces of children mesmerized by what they are hearing.
You will hear the animated voice and see the gestures of the librarian as she reads.
The book in her hand holds a treasure.

I am sure that if you wave your hand in front of a child, they would not notice.
The story has captivated them.
They are involved in the plot and in the characters lives.
They want to know the resolution of the problem.

If A Tree Falls In The Forest

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

It is an age old question.
It is one that has been asked numerous times.
It is deemed a philosophical question.
It is a question that is said to tease our intellects.

If a tree falls in the forest, and there’s nobody around to hear, does it make a sound?

I actually googled that question.
It has its own Wikipedia page.
It is said to regard observation and perception.
However, it is a question about so much more.

Mystery Reader

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

The email invitation came again this year.
It was sent by my daughter who teaches second grade.
It had two words on the subject line: MYSTERY READER.
I was actually excited when I saw the email in my Inbox.

My daughter invites parents to come to her classroom quite often.
She has Poetry Day, where each child has to memorize and recite a poem.
She has a mother/child picnic and a father/child kickball game.
She has many celebrations around the holidays.

Emojis

I am on the list.
In fact, I am on two lists.
I am a safe person in the contact list of two young people.
I am one of the privileged few.

One phone is for a young boy, who has one more year before he goes to high school.
I am a person the school can get a hold of in case his parents cannot be reached.
I am someone he is allowed to text and someone who is allowed to text him.
It is nice to know that I am there if the need ever arose.

Written For Me

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

Today marks my 58th time around the sun.
My age is simply a number.
There is no denying that my birth year sounds further and further away.
However, inside me the little girl, the teenage girl, and the young adult is still there.

As a little girl, it was fun to go down the shore on the day of my birthday.
It was fun to go out for dinner at a favorite restaurant.
As I got older, a summer birthday was never that special when I was in school.
There was no celebration at school on the actual day.

Half Listening

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

We have a park bench underneath a clump of trees.
That bench has been there for many years.
My husband even put four pieces of flagstone under the legs of the bench.
He wanted the bench to remain level and not sink into the mulch.

That bench has gotten much use over the years.
It was the place where each July 4th, my husband lit sparklers for our young children.
It was the place from which football games on the lawn could be watched.
It was the spot where a long phone call could be enjoyed under the trees.

The Shower Basket

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I changed my shampoo.
I wanted something organic with all natural ingredients.
I found one that smelled wonderful; there was also a conditioner as well.
That is the one I bought.

We got all of our bathrooms redone a few years ago.
Instead of tile, my husband wanted to get marble around the shower.
I did not complain since marble is so much easier to clean.
All I asked was that there was a tiny shelf tucked in a corner on which things can rest.
