The Pull Of A Magnet

Posted in Daily Living | Leave a comment

My two oldest granddaughters each have a diary.
It is the same kind of diary that I had as a girl.
The color is not as important as the fact that the diary has one important thing.
A girl’s first diary must have a lock and key.

My oldest granddaughter had already gotten her diary as a present.
My next oldest granddaughter got her diary from me.
It was the best possible present.
It was pink and came in its own slipcase box, with a satin ribbon to keep your place.

Right away, my granddaughter started writing in it.
Being six years old at the time (she is now seven) there were more pictures than words.
As she grew, throughout the year, she did write words and carried that diary everywhere.
I was so happy that the gift was so well received.

The lock on a girl’s diary is either, round, or square, or heart shaped.
The diary comes with two keys, usually on a satin ribbon.
Both granddaughters were so excited that they could lock their precious diary.
My husband suggested they keep the spare key separate.

Soon after receiving the diary, one of the keys was lost.
It had fallen on the floor near the bed.
The other granddaughter had a similar thing happen.
Being  on the top bunk, she dropped it at night and had to wait until morning to find it.

I had a brilliant idea.
We have cabinets in our garage, and one of them has a heavy duty magnet inside.
On that magnet, we have a pair of scissors, with the metal blades firmly held in place.
I thought that I could buy a circular magnet for each of my granddaughters; which I did.

I wanted to give each of them one magnet on which they could put their spare diary key.
That way I knew they would not lose it or drop it during the night.
I ordered a pack of two magnets.
It arrived the following day.

The magnets came in a small box.
I opened the box to find the magnets were just like the one we have in the garage cabinet.
I put the box on my desk in the kitchen.
I placed my pop socket for my phone on top of the box.

My pop socket has a magnetic back, so I can take it on and off my phone.
I use my pop socket when I walk each morning.
I decided to put my pop socket on top of the magnet box on my desk.
I stood amazed.

The pop socket rocked back and forth.
I realized that the polarity of the magnets caused the motion.
When I turned the box over and put the pop socket on top, it remained still.
When I turned the box over to the other side, the pop socket rocked back and forth again.

I called my husband into the kitchen and showed him.
We both were amazed that the magnets were that strong.
Even through the box, the magnetic pull attracted and/or repelled.
My husband said that we needed to show our oldest grandson, who loves anything scientific.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.  (James 4:7, 8)

I had just finished teaching the book of James in Bible study.
I remembered the verse that if we come near to God, He will come near to us.
Just like the one side of the box, the two magnets attracted to each other.
We are to flee the devil and his schemes, just like the opposite side made the poles repel.

One little gift, in one little box, and an object lesson was before me.
I want to be pulled closer to God and love what He loves and hate what He hates.
I want to be repelled from anything that is not holy or Godly.
On my own, I will fail.

Praise God for the pull of His Spirit leading me, directing me and guiding me.
