Superhero Cape And Mask
Posted in Daily Living 2 Comments
My oldest grandson turned three years old in January.
He begins pre-school this fall.
He is growing in leaps and bounds.
He is still a little boy.
We all go to the beach during my birthday week each summer.
My oldest daughter brings something for her nieces and nephews to do while at the beach.
Often it is crafts for the girls; this year they made bracelets and headbands.
Not exactly the most interesting thing for the boys to do.
This year she decided something different her three year old nephew.
It had to be fun and engaging.
The item she chose for her nephew brought much excitement.
It was a box which contained a cape and mask that he could decorate himself.
He went right to work.
The cape was blue, just the right color for a superhero.
The mask was quite large, ready to be decorated as he saw fit.
I did not watch the entire process, but saw its progression.
Grandma, look! He said showing me all he was doing to decorate his cape.
There was glue…lots of glue.
He put the glue on the fabric in swirls and straight lines.
I had no idea how we were going to move the masterpiece so we could eat dinner that evening.
I was summoned to see the gold stickers that were being placed on the mask.
I was alerted to the stickers that were added to the cape itself.
Many of the stickers went over the glue.
I failed to notice that the glue had glitter in it.
Anyone who knows me well knows that I am not a fan of glitter.
That is putting it mildly.
Glitter seems to reproduce, much like rabbits.
You find it everywhere, even on the face of the artist if he touches his chin or cheek.
My grandson was so proud of his creation.
In order for us to eat dinner, and for the cape to dry, it was hung on the banister.
We vacation in the Outer Banks where the houses usually have three stories.
His cape was proudly hung on the top floor for everyone to see.
I wondered if the glitter glue would ever dry.
I wondered if the stickers would stay in the places he set them down.
I wondered if he was going to be able to wear the cape the next day.
He was so sure it would be ready for him.
I took a picture of the cape and mask hanging on the banister.
It was lifeless and limp as it hung there drying.
It would become a superhero cape as soon as my grandson put it on.
It did nothing just hanging there; it was motionless and empty.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
We fight battles every day.
Lyrics to one of my favorite worship songs (You’ve Already Won) says it all:
I’m fighting a battleYou’ve already wonNo matter what comes my wayI will overcomeI don’t know what You’re doingBut I know what You’ve doneI’m fighting a battleYou’ve already won
Jesus has won the battle already by His death, resurrection, and ascension.
However, we are still here in the battle, fighting against the powers of this dark world.
We need to put our armor on.
We need the attire of a Superhero to withstand the enemy of our souls.
God equips us for battle.
Our armor cannot hang limp and lifeless.
It needs to be worn.
It is for our strength and readiness to fight the battle that, by faith, we know He has won.
My grandson loves his cape and mask.
I love the reminder.
I need to pick up the armor and wear it in order to fight strategically.
It is a battle that I have to fight, but a battle He has already won.
Lord Jesus, I praise your Holy Name.

The cape is beautifully made. Good job, he did. Very proud of your 3 year old grandson. Christ standing super hero in Jesus Christ name. Amen✝️
Marilyn, he was so proud of himself. He still wears that cape and mask. I hope he will alway remember to wear God’s armor as well as he grows.
Blessings,
Gina
