Signs Of Life

I was thinking about song lyrics.
It was from the album, Signs of Life, by Steven Curtis Chapman.
I used to play it in the car as I droveĀ  my children here and there.
One stanza in particular kept repeating in my mind.

Now I’ve got crayons rolling around in the floorboard of my car
Bicycles all over my driveway, bats and balls all over my yard
And there’s a plastic man from outer space sitting in my chair
The signs of life are everywhere
But I’ve got questions rolling around in the corners of my mind
And if it’s true, I live in a world where hope has all but died
And if I really have a living love alive in me
How am I letting it be known, how am I letting it be seen?

These are the signs, these are the signs of life
The love that proves there is a living faith inside
These are the signs, these are the signs of life
The compassion and concern, that make this world turn
These are the signs of life
Signs of Life

I can relate to this song, especially this week.

My son, two of my granddaughters, and their dog have been here all week.
My daughter-in-love is in Hawaii; she was asked to be a bridesmaid in her cousin’s wedding.
The couple are in the military, stationed in Japan, so Hawaii was closer for them.
Not every family member was able to travel that far.

My son stayed home with his daughters but came here for the week.
Since he still had to work, I was able to help him all week.
It is so wonderful to have my son here; he is always my son but now he is a daddy.
It is the same young man I love so very much, but we have different roles, as it should be.

I thought of the Signs of Life song as I looked around my house this week.
My one granddaughter is three-years-old and her sister is almost six months old.
There are baby bottles on a section of my kitchen counter.
There is baby oatmeal and baby food in my pantry.

The walker is set up downstairs and the stroller is in the garage.
Baby toys are scattered about, and a cozy baby quilt is nearby for time on the floor.
I decided to get out the dollhouse for my three-year-old granddaughter.
With all the people and accessories, I knew she would have fun imagining.

My husband took a picture of our back stairs and sent it to the family.
Mom loves the return of the shoes, he sent out as a caption.
My children always put their shoes on the back stairs when they were young.
Five steps were taken, as a pair of shoes went on each one.

I didn’t realize how much I missed the shoes on the back stairs until I saw them there again.
My son brought three pairs of sneakers, since he tried to get a run in every day.
My oldest granddaughter had three pairs of shoes as well.
One pair were sparkly golden dress shoes to go with her Rapunzel dress and tiara.

Signs of Life.
Dollhouse people and accessories were set up in front of the fireplace.
I couldn’t bring myself to ask her to put that away each night.
They are elaborately set up with major dialog happening between all the people.

The high chair has a bib over the back.
The baby bathtub and bathtub toys are drying in the hall bath.
Two dog dishes and a container of dry dog food are in the laundry room.
Stuffed animals are on the side of the big girl bed to keep my oldest granddaughter company.

Lots of books have been read, and a large bucket of crayons is on the toy chest.
One lone red crayon was found behind the toy chest; He was sleeping, Grandma.
Colorful cups with straws and lids and favorite bowls for snacks are in the dishwasher.
Baby spoons and toddler forks are among the grownup utensils.

These are the Signs of Life.
Do we have Signs of Spiritual Life?
Is there evidence that we are alive in Him?
Is there evidence that our heart has been made new?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22,23)

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. (John 15:12)

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
(Ephesians 4:32)

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
(1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Signs of Life.
Signs of Spiritual Life.
Evidence that we are alive in Him.
May the Signs of Life be everywhere.
