The Exchange

This was a day of purposeful errands.
Three different stores.
Three different returns.
Why don’t you just get a label and send them back? My husband suggested.

Because that’s harder, I answered him.
He really didn’t understand.
He doesn’t realize that I just might find something to replace what I was returning.
He doesn’t realize that going out and having time to myself in the car is quite nice.

A Box Of Tea

Posted in Salvation | 3 Comments

If packages come in the mail, they are delivered to my laundry room door.
They are usually left next to the large milk can.
I always appreciate our mail carrier going the extra mile.
I can easily see the mail when I look out window.

I put my coat on to go out and get the mail.
I didn’t have to go far, since three packages were on my doorstep.
Our mail was wrapped in a rubber band and placed on top of one of the boxes.
There is something wonderful about getting packages, even if it is something I am expecting.

The Narrow Road

I had to go to the little college town that is near my home.
It is a quaint town, with brick sidewalks.
Walking on the sidewalks demands careful attention.
None of the sidewalks are even; tree roots pop through at very awkward places.

Parallel parking is all one can do; unless you want to pay for a parking garage.
This little town houses the county courthouse.
A few parking garages are near the courthouse for people who have to come and go.
I always choose to park on the street and walk to my destination.

Looking For What Is Lost

Many years ago, I lost a bracelet.
It was a good bracelet, though not an expensive bracelet.
It was one I wore often.
I loved the charms that hung daintily from it.

I remember the Sunday morning I was dressing for church.
I went into the drawer where I kept that bracelet.
I opened the box.
It wasn’t there.

The Dentist Appointment

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

I went to the dentist today.
That is not major news.
Going to the dentist is not uncommon for me.
Except now, in 2020, because of the virus that has spread around the world, it is.

I missed my last six month appointment.
It was scheduled in the month when the lock down began.
My dentist’s office was closed.
At that time, seven months ago, I had no idea when I could reschedule.

Look Up

Posted in Salvation | 4 Comments

I got up at 6:00 am.
I had a busy day ahead of me.
I wanted to take my walk early in the morning.
I had a few things to do around the house before I left for the day.

The sunrise was officially 6:57 am.
I hoped it would be safe to walk.
When I left the house at 6:23 am, the sky was just beginning to get light along the horizon.
The road was still in shadows.

One Lone Lid

My husband carried two bins up from the basement.
The bins have blue painter’s tape on the lid.
Fall Decorations is printed in my handwriting.
I love opening the bins up each year.

The wood blocks that spell, Happy Harvest, have their place on top of my Hoosier cabinet.
The Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin primitive dolls, that every child loves, sits on top of an old scale.
Rustic pumpkins made of wood are on the dining room table.
A country sign that says, Autumn Blessings, is over one of  the doors.

Play Food

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

Two of my granddaughters were here for the morning.
The older one, who is two-years-old, loves to play in Grandma’s big girl room.
It is the room that used to be my youngest daughter’s room.
It is now where the older grandchildren can sleep once they are out of a crib and in a bed.

A tall bookcase holds the stuffed animals that were favorites of my own children.
They were not the ones they slept with, rather they were the ones they used for play.
Muppets and Sesame Street characters are there.
Curious George, Paddington Bear, Raggedy Ann and Andy, and Velveteen Rabbit are there.

The Trash Truck

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

I would hear it before I would see it.
It was the Wednesday morning ritual.
I would hear the sound of the trash truck coming down the street.
I could set a watch by its punctuality.

I would often see the trash truck on my morning walk.
We seemed to be on the same schedule.
I was not always consistent in the time I began my walk.
Sometimes, I would see the trash truck right away; other times I saw it as I headed home.

The Appointment

A year ago, my car was sideswiped on a curvy road, on a rainy day.
We called our insurance company and got a repair estimate.
Since the car was eleven years old, though still in great condition, we had some decisions.
The cost of repair was quite high and we planned to get a new car anyway that Spring.

The sideswiping just pushed up the date of that purchase.
So, on our anniversary last year, we bought a new car.
I loved my minivan and wanted to get another one.
A 2020 car was purchased that day.
