My son-in-love and oldest granddaughter came over on the weekend.
He wanted to borrow one of our kayaks so he could take his daughter on a nearby lake.
This granddaughter just had her seventh birthday.
I truly do not know where the time is going.

I was on my computer, at my farm table in the kitchen, when I heard the door open.
It is the door from the garage into my laundry room.
Soon I heard her footsteps.
Like my own children, I actually know my grandchildren’s footsteps as well.

She came running into the kitchen and right over to me.
She snuggled next to me and sat on my lap.
She wanted me to see her new sneakers that she just got for her birthday.
I saw them when we celebrated on her actual day, but I was delighted to see them again.

Grandma, these sneakers make me run faster, she told me.
She is our little athlete and already runs very fast.
They are high top sneakers, black and bright pink.
She absolutely loves wearing them.

We talked about field day that she just had at school.
We talked about the fact that she was going to kayak for the first time.
She brought Crocs to change into, so her new sneakers wouldn’t get wet.
She knew that she had to wear a life jacket and was so excited to go on this new adventure.

Soon, they were off and on their way to the lake.
I thought about the way she came into the house.
I thought about the way all my grandchildren come into the house.
I thought about the way my own children come into the house.

They have total access.
The doors are always open to them.
The doors are locked to a stranger who must knock and wait for entrance.
Our home is totally accessible to family.

My home is open on Bible study days.
The women know to just walk right in.
When a new woman joins the Bible study, she is always a bit timid to walk right into my home.
I have said often: the door is always open and there is always a chair for you.

In the Bible, God is called, El Roi, which translates to, “The God who sees me”.
God is also called, El Shama or Eloim Shama, which translates to, the God who hears.
Like a good father is to his children, so God the Father is to His children.
We are seen and we are heard.

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. (Ephesians 3:12)

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Accessibility matters.
We are all made in the image of God.
Those who have come to Jesus in faith, trusting in Him alone for salvation, can call God, Father.
Jesus is the Key and the Door; by His blood shed for us, we have total access to the Father.

We, like my children and grandchildren, have total access to God the Father through Jesus.
We don’t have to wait for Him to be available.
God the Father is there; He always sees us and is ready to listen when we call to Him.
Total access to the God of the universe, who made all things, is ours in Jesus.

Some people pay extra money at concerts or events to get an all access pass.
We have that total access when we trust in Jesus.
The door is always open.
God the Father sees us and hears us any time of the day or night.

Amen and amen.
