The Light Of The Moon
Posted in Daily Living Leave a comment
There was the most incredible full moon last night.
I love to look at the moon.
I love the way the night is not really the night when the moon is full in the sky.
I can see silhouettes of the trees in my yard.
The branches play optical tricks on me as I look from one tree to another.
I always appreciate the full moon because it illuminates my bedroom.
No stumbling about if my husband is already asleep and I don’t want to wake him.
Like everything else, God made the moon.
God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth. And it was so. God made two great lights- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.
(Genesis 1:14-16)
I always find it so interesting that the moon gives no light of its own.
The beauty we see…the light that illuminates our night…is only reflected light of the sun.
What we marvel at…what songs have been written about…what we dream under…is merely a reflection of something greater.
In essence the moon is a giant solar reflector.
Yet, the moon is still beautiful…maybe even more than if it generated its own light.
I was thinking about Jesus.
Every time Jesus miraculously healed someone, fed someone, or raised someone from the dead, He never got the praise.
Over and over, the people consistently praised God…His Father.
And that is just the way He liked it.
Shouldn’t it be that way with us?
Every time we do something, whether big or small, for others, God should get the praise and the glory…not us.
And that should be the way we like it, too.
We are no different than the moon.
Any light we happen to shine is a reflection of Him.
We have no light of our own.
Yet we are still beautiful…even more than if the light was generated by us.
We are a huge SON reflector!
We illuminate…so others can see Him.
We shine with the gifts He has given us…so He gets the praise and the glory.
Any light that we generate ourselves…for ourselves…will not last.
It will fade over time and be forgotten.
But the light that He generates in us, as we reflect Him, is lasting…effective…awesome.
Simply because He is!
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
I don’t think I will ever look at the moon the same way again.
The moon’s light is a reflection of the sun.
So are we.
SON reflectors…for His glory.
