With Expectation

Posted in Heaven | 2 Comments

I love when my daughter sends us a video of our granddaughter.
I hear the sound that a text message is waiting for me to view.
I know that if it is sent to both my husband and I, it is either a picture or a video.
Grandparents never tire of seeing their grandchildren.

This day, in fact two videos were sent.
I enlarged them on my phone to get the full view.
Even before it played, I could see our granddaughter.
She was on the patio, standing by the stone wall.

When I clicked on the video to play it, I heard the sound of a lawn mower.
Our granddaughter was watching her daddy cut the grass.
I could see only his legs and feet as he passed by.
She side stepped along the stone wall trying to keep up with him.

He would stop and wave to her.
She would wave back.
Her waves have become very animated.
She wanted to make sure her daddy saw her.

She followed him all along the stone wall.
She kept waving all the way.
She side stepped until she reached the small evergreen trees.
The trees blocked her view.

The video stopped.
It ended with her waiting behind the small evergreen trees.
The second video was below the first.
I clicked on the video in order to play it.

I heard the sound of the lawn mower.
I saw her daddy’s legs and feet as he pushed the mower along, going back the way he came.
There was that moment, when she saw her daddy.
Her animated waves began again.

She side stepped along the stone wall, going the opposite direction this time.
She blew kisses to her daddy.
She kept waving joyfully.
She pointed to something just beyond the camera frame.

She was so delighted to see her daddy.
Even though it was only minutes before, she lost sight of him among the trees.
When she saw that first appearance of him, her joy was obvious.
She only had eyes for him, and at that moment, he only had eyes for her.

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1: 1-11)

The Lord Jesus is coming back.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were waiting for His arrival with palpable joy?
What if we waited like our sweet granddaughter, with our eyes peeled until we saw Him again?
The video had the sound of a lawn mower; one day we will hear the sound of a trumpet.

Two men dressed in white asked the disciples an important question.
Why do you stand here looking into the sky?
We wait, but we must not wait unproductively.
There is work to be done; there are people who need to hear about Jesus.

A stone wall separated our granddaughter from her daddy.
We are separated now, for a time.
One day, we will hear it: a trumpet call that announces Jesus’ coming.
We will wave with animation; we will be filled with joy as we wait to see His face.

Soon.
Maranatha.
