The Magic Pen

Posted in Repentance | Leave a comment

I ordered a pack of ten pens.
There was an assortment of colors to choose from, neatly packaged in a plastic case.
I had my grandchildren in mind when I bought them.
Not the youngest, who is only five months old, but all the rest.

I knew about these pens from my six-year-old granddaughter.
Someone at school had one and she told me all about it.
In no uncertain terms, the pen would allow her to be a detective.
The pen would allow her to write secret messages.

It was just the kind of thing I would have loved as a little girl.
It would have been just the thing I would have been excited to use.
Truthfully, I couldn’t wait to order a pack and try one myself.
In fact, that is just what I did.

The pens arrived in their bright array.
I mentally chose six pens for each of the other grandchildren.
I knew the color pen that each child would choose.
I knew that the pens would be a big hit among their other Valentine gifts.

The one who told me about the magic pen was the most excited.
I just knew, Grandma! I just knew you would remember!
I have to remember that, to a child, a magic pen is better than anything else.
I need to see with my little girl eyes, which are still there after all these years.

The pen has invisible ink.
Only after you click the top, which has a UV light, can you read the message.
I was a bit skeptical.
However, just as promised, I wrote an invisible message that was revealed when the light shone.

Oh, such scope for the imagination, as Anne Shirley would say.
Can you imagine the secret messages I could have shared?
I could share them only if the recipient had the UV light that was required to read them.
The concept was brilliant.

My six-year-old granddaughter showed me how it worked when she called me.
She had no idea that I have extra pens here at home and tried one myself.
I allowed her to show me and explain how it worked.
She clicked the light and, I love you, came into view.

What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs. (Luke 12:3)

For nothing is concealed that won’t be revealed, and nothing hidden that won’t be made known and brought to light. (Luke 8:17)

God the Father does not need a UV light to expose what we try to hide.
We think that we can continue in a lie.
We think that we will never get caught.
We think that no one will know.

God knows.
Everything is laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13)
We think we are so clever.
God knows. God sees. God hears.

A magic pen brings such innocent fun.
A magic pen is one thing.
Deceit is another.
God will not be mocked.

God will shine His light to reveal all we thought we covered up.
